Two glaciers with different flow rates in the Royal Society Fiord, Baffin Island, Canada. The one on the left is flowing at a faster rate, thus prevent the smooth plastic flow exhibited by the surface of the glacier on the right. Crevasses have formed in the faster flowing glacier on the left.

A crevasse is a large crack in the glacier formed by differential flow rate.
