The dry adiabatic rate is the rate at which dry air changes its temperature as a result of expansion or compression. The dry adiabatic rate is 1.0o C/100 meters. Air rises and cools at the dry adiabatic rate up to the level of condensation where dew point temperature is reached. If the air continues to rise it will cool at the saturated adiabatic rate.
