The greenhouse effect is the warming of the air due to atmospheric absorption of longwave energy emitted by the earth's surface. Carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor, and chlorofluorocarbons are common greenhouse gases. Some scientists would rather call it the "atmosphere effect" because a greenhouse does not warm the same way as the atmosphere. Suggested Web Sites:
