 Elements determining the tone quality:
- Source of vibration: String, which is either bowed or plucked
- Vibrations from the string are transmitted by a bridge to the
belly and back of the instrument, causing the large plates (generally
wood) to oscillate with frequencies present in the string
- Holes in the plate (front plate) to force air in and out
