Try it: Partitive mixing.
Examine the screen of a color TV with a magnifying glass.
First, look before, then after you turn on the TV. Notice the array
of colored phosphors. Different manufacturers use different arrays; some
have the three colors intermixed in triangular arrays, others have the dots
of a given color arranged in vertical lines, which alternate with the
lines of other colors. Notice that most colors of the TV image involve
all three phospors.
Find a channel projecting in black and white,or turn down the color
control, and move as close to the screen as necessary to resolve
(without the magnifying glass) the separate colors.
(All three phosphors must give off light to produce white light.)
Now move your head back until the colors fuse into white. Notice then
that you can still see the individual dots (or lines of dots), even if
you cannot resolve the individual colors.
