COURSE
CONTENT:
Introduction to discrete mathematical structures and their
applications. The main topics are graph theory and counting techniques.
Applications include discrete and network optimization, discrete probability.
TEXTBOOK:
Discrete Mathematics with
Applications,
by Susanna Epp, fourth edition (optional; third edition is also acceptable).
GRADING:
There will be two quizzes worth 10% each, two tests worth
20% each, and a final exam worth 35% of your final mark. The class
participation is worth 5% . The quizzes and the tests
(normally) will be at class time. Final grades will be determined from the
following scale: 90-100 A, 78-90 B, 66-78 C, 54-66 D.

ATTENDANCE:
Strongly recommended. Students are responsible for all
information and material given in class.
HOMEWORK:
The homework assignments will be posted at https://people.ohio.edu/melkonia/math3050/homework.html
Homework assignments will not be collected and graded, but you will be
responsible for quiz and test items similar to homework problems, and some of
the problems on the tests and quizzes may literally be the homework problems
previously assigned to you.
