Hallicrafters S-53A

Hallicrafters S-53A

Introduced in 1951 as an upgrade for the S-53, the 8 tube S-53A is a transformer-operated single-conversion general coverage receiver with a separate oscillator and mixer and two stages of IF. The major difference between the earlier 53 and the "A" model is the use of small IF transformers in the "A". The S-53A covers the AM broadcast band to 30 MHz with the exception of a gap from 1.63 to 2.5 MHz. It also covers 48 to 54.5 MHz, the 6 meter band. In size, the S-53A is only slightly larger than the S-38. The original price was $89.50
