Knight Space Spanner
AC-DC regenerative receiver sold by Allied Radio as a kit. Listed as model Y-259 or as Y-243 with Y-247 cabinet. Also as S-243 with S-247 cabinet. Covers broadcast and the shortwave band from 6-18 Mhz. Priced at $15.95 plus $2.90 for the optional gray pyroxylin covered wood cabinet in September 1956 Allied ads in Radio-TV News, and at $18.95 including cabinet in the January 1959 ad. Uses 3 tubes including a 35W4 rectifier and 50C5 audio output. All of the radio receiving and detecting and a stage of audio amplification are done by a third tube, the 12AT7, a real tribute to the simple and efficient design of a regenerative receiver. A later version sports a two-tone color on the front panel.
