New Staff Orientation
New professionals in the Division used teamwork and collaboration during the annual DOSA new staff teambuilding event.
Each year the Division of Student Affairs facilitates a teambuilding event and orientation for all new hires. New full-time professionals that were hired after September of last year, were asked to participate in a morning of exercises. New staff and GA’s participated in the half day division orientation.
This year’s exercise took place on August 13 and included a scavenger hunt around campus facilitated by Dan Vorisek and his staff from Outdoor Pursuits. The purpose of this event was to engage the staff in a creative and fun atmosphere.
New employees, and division leaders were divided into groups of eight and sent on a geocaching adventure. Using GPS tracking, the groups were directed to various Athens landmarks including the OHIO bobcat statue, College Green, College Gate, the Athens City building, Bird Arena, and the West Portico. Once teams arrived at their destination, they proceeded to work together on various teambuilding exercises. The activities challenged group members while teaching teamwork, collaboration, and problem solving skills.
In addition, The new staff orientation took place on August 18 in the Multicultural Multipurpose room in Baker Center. The afternoon kicked-off with a welcome from the Vice President for Student Affairs, Ryan Lombardi, followed by departmental overviews from each of the department heads. Following the departmental overviews, Ryan Lombardi, Jenny Hall-Jones, and Megan Vogel covered a myriad of topics, including how the division fits within the University, policies, and practices. If you have any questions about any division expectations, policies, or procedures, we encourage you to talk to your department head or Megan Vogel at firstname.lastname@example.org.
