Assignment #1: Design Awareness Due Monday, September 14: 10:00am

Go to the online Dwell magazine web site.

Look through the complimentary copy they provide.

Select five (5) items that you find interesting, appealing, or well designed, from this, or any other accessible to you Dwell magazine.

The items you select may be particular, single, things, such as a chair, a stove, a light fixture, or a larger 'thing' such as a whole house

Research, as best you can, the items you select (if they are identifiable as specific items) or research that 'type' of item.  To do this research, I advise 'googling' the particular item, or do so as a generic item.  If you like a very modern looking chair, for example, 'google' 'modern chairs', or 'modern wood and cloth chairs' if your chair looks like it is made of wood and cloth.

In a written document (a pdf that includes pictures/images of the designed pieces you have selected) provide an overview of each of those items, including general history of the item, any famous people involved in designing or making the item, and how and where the item is manufactured today.

Your paper is to be longer than one page typed, shorter than two pages typed, (double spaced).

If there is an aspect of this assignment that you do not understand, or find in some way not do-able, you are then required, in place of that element that you find odd, to do something that expresses your well thought out, intelligent, design oriented point of view.

This is to be a good document: good as a visual presentation on the page, and good as a written description of things and your thoughts about them.  Onward!

Due: Monday, September 14, at the beginning of class.
