Brune's December 2004 Belize Trip - Birds

We saw an amazing diversity of birds in Belize - Toucans, Hawks, Parrots, Herons,... Our camera was not really up to the task of photographing most of them, but here's a few.

Turkey Vultures roosting in a tree at La Milpa before sunrise.

A little later they spread their wings to warm up in the sun.

Hanging nests of the Montezuma Oropendola.

Slaty-tailed Trogon.

Ocellated Turkeys (Meleagris ocellata) were abundant at La Milpa. Reminiscent of a cross between a regular wild turkey and a peacock. These birds travel around grassy areas in small groups just like wild turkeys in the U.S.

A closer look at one of them.

Gray Catbird.
