Question of the Day:

A homeless man with advanced pulmonary tuberculosis presents with severe backache. His left hip is flexed and laterally rotated, and thigh extension is very painful. Radiography shows destruction on the left side of the anterior portions of vertebrae T12–L1. A diagnosis of TB of the T12 IV disc and left-sided psoas abscess is made. Explain the patient’s posture. What structures are at risk in resection of the abscess?
