Mark Berryman joined the faculty in the Department of Biomedical Sciences in 1999. He is also a member of the Molecular and Cellular Biology program at Ohio University. Mark graduated from the University of Maryland at Baltimore County in 1985 and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in 1991. During graduate school, he studied the process of transcytosis in intestinal epithelium and received extensive training in immunocytochemistry and electron microscopy. His postdoctoral research was in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell University, where he worked in Dr. Anthony Bretscher's laboratory to study how actin filaments associate with the plasma membrane of epithelial cells. During the course of this work, Mark was trained in a variety biochemical and molecular biology techniques used to study basic cell biology.
